Terrible Twos--or Terrific Twos?

My youngest is almost 2. She's been in the "terrible twos" for about a year already, with no signs of stopping. You'd think after successfully rearing 3 other children past the ripe old age of two, I'd be well prepared for the antics of an almost-two-year-old. Nope! This child has a knack for leaving a path of destruction in her wake everywhere she goes. How a two year old can drag a large, heavy, wooden dining room chair across the floor and into the kitchen, climb up onto it and open the cabinets to look for "tips" (a.k.a Pringles) all in about 10 seconds, I'll never know. Of course, as soon as I heard the scooting chair, I knew trouble was ensuing so I ran into the kitchen in time to see the "tips" tumbling out of the cabinet onto the floor (narrowly missing her head), lid flying off as the canister bounced along the previously swept floor. Sigh. OK--time to sweep again. As I am sweeping the crumbled bits into the dustpan, I hear her say "yummy!". Uh-oh. I peer around the corner and discover my little angel painting yogurt on her face. And her tummy. And the sofa. Sigh. Why does she have yogurt, do you ask? Did I mention she figured out the child-proof fridge-lock (ha!) after 10 minutes? Mmm-hmm. She looked at the contraption, went to get a spoon and pushed the end of the spoon against the button to pop open the latch. So now there is no stopping her--her favorite thing to steal from the fridge is butter--she peels it and licks it like a popsicle. I know--gross! We've tried hiding it in the back of the fridge to no avail--she has X-ray eyes. I spend most of my day following her around cleaning up after her. And, eager to keep me busy, she steams along as a one-toddler-wrecking-crew. So THIS is why it is called the "Terrible Twos". But as I finally sit to check my email, my little terror climbs up onto my lap for a snuggle and gives me a huge bear hug. She spies a tiny little scratch on my skin and says "booboo--I kiss", and proceeds to give me the sweetest little kisses over and over. Unprompted--love pure and simple. Maybe the "Terrible Twos"is a misnomer. Perhaps it should be the "Terrific Twos". I wouldn't want to miss this for the world.
