Helpful Hints of the Week

It's Thursday--time for another installment of (drum roll, please)-- Helpful Hints of the Week!

-Do you have a Swiffer and like the convenience but hate the cost of refills? All You magazine had a great tip--cut up old fleece clothing (or buy a yard for cheap at JoAnn's) into rectangles and use them with your Swiffer. The fleece will pick up hair, dust and debris and can be tossed into the washer and reused.

-Sanitize that sponge--don't throw it out! Here are two ways:
1. Fill your kitchen sink with hot water and a cup of bleach. Toss in your rinsed sponge and let it sit for 10 minutes. Rinse well, and you'll have a clean sponge and a clean sink!
2. Rinse your sponge but leave it very damp/wet. Microwave it on high for 1-2 minutes. Careful--it will be HOT (and bacteria-free)!

-Here is a tip that a reader sent in (thanks, Josette!):
Save the bag that your cereal comes in--usually the bag is within the box. You can use this bag for lunch sandwiches or cut in half to use for after baking cookies.

  1. We use microfiber towels on our Swiffer. Our Dollar Store sells them about 4 for $1. Our dryer vents inside, which produces a lot of lint, so we use those to get the lint off the ceiling.

A damp cloth helps minimize airborne dust when dusting, too.
