New to Swagbucks? You can get more info and sign up HERE and get 3 bucks for signing up. Dangers of Hand Sanitizer for Kids

I received an Email from my daughter's Preschool today (which I was also forwarded a year or so ago) with the true story of a little girl who licked the fruity smelling hand sanitizer off her hands and ended up in the ER with alcohol poisoning. Although the sanitizer can be very helpful and effective at preventing the spread of germs, it can pose a risk to the younger kids who are curious. Just a reminder to be careful. PENNE AND SAUSAGE CASSEROLE

Makes 6-8 servings

This recipe is adapted from Taste of Home magazine.

1 pound penne pasta
1 pound bulk Italian sausage
1/2 pound sliced mushrooms
1 small onion, chopped
2 tablespoons olive oil
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano
3/4 cups dry red wine or beef broth
1 cans (14 1/2 ounces) stewed tomatoes, chopped
1 small can (8 ounces) tomato sauce
1/2 cup beef broth
2 cups shredded mozzarella
1 cup shredded parmesan
Minced fresh parsley (optional)

Cook pasta in a large pot of boiling salted water until al dente.

Meanwhile, cook sausage in a Dutch oven over medium heat, crumbling as it cooks, until no longer pink. Drain.

In same Dutch oven, heat oil. Add mushrooms and onion. Cook until tender. Add garlic and oregano. Cook 1 minute. Stir in 1/2 cup wine. Bring to a boil. Cook until liquid is reduced by half. Stir in tomatoes, tomato sauce, broth, sausage and remaining wine. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat. Cover and simmer 15 minutes.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 13-by-9-inch pan.

Drain pasta.

Spread 1/2 cup sauce in prepared dish. Top with 1/2 the cooked pasta. Top each with half the sauce and 1 cup of mozzarella cheese and 1/2 c. parmesan. Repeat layers.

Cover and bake 25 minutes. Uncover and bake 5 to 10 minutes longer or until bubbly and cheese is melted. Sprinkle with parsley if desired.

Joke--Three Men on a Hike

Got this in an email today--made me chuckle!

Three Men on a Hike

Three men were hiking through a forest when they came upon a large
raging, violent river. Needing to get to the other side, the first man
prayed: "God, please give me the strength to cross the river.."

Poof! . God gave him big arms and strong legs and he was able to
swim across in about 2 hours, having almost drowned twice.

After witnessing that, the second man prayed: "God, please give
me strength and the tools to cross the river"

Poof! .... God gave him a rowboat and strong arms and strong legs and
he was able to row across in about an hour after almost capsizing once.

Seeing what happened to the first two men, the third man prayed:
"God, please give me the strength, the tools and the intelligence to
cross the river"

Poof! ... He was turned in to a woman. She checked the map,
hiked one hundred yards up stream and walked across the bridge.

Easy Ways to Earn Cash and Prizes at Home

As many of us tighten our belts even further in the current economy, we all need ways to stretch the budget. Personally, the first thing to be cut in our budget is gift-giving expenses and entertainment. The following programs are free and easy ways we have found to make a few dollars now and again, or earn points to redeem for prizes (which we use for gifts or entertainment)
  • Swagbucks --Free. When you join you get $3 in Swagbucks right away. Whe you do your web searches with Swagbucks (search results are from Google and Ask.com) you will occassionally and randomly be awarded "Bucks" you can redeem for prizes like Amazon.com Gift Certificates, books, music, and Gift cards to retailers like Barnes & Noble, Target, Macy's, Itunes, and Starbucks. GREAT way to start aquiring gift cards to use as gifts for Christmas. And it is FREE and you don't really have to DO anything extra in your day!
  • Surveyhead and Focusline are both owned by the same parent company. When you join, you'll get $5 just for signing up. They will occasionally email you surveys or you can check the sites for a list of available surveys and how much they pay. I've made about $60 in the past few months just by doing a survey every now and again when the kids are busy or in bed. Most surveys take 10-20 minutes and pay between $1-4. Not a lot, but it does add up.  There are many other reputable survey companies as well.  Do your research before you join.
  • MyPoints.com gives you points for reading emails, shopping from their site, and answering surveys. You can exchange the points for gift cards to restaurants and retailers. I'm on my way to a second Gift card--and again, you don't really have to do anything lengthy to get the points except click on your email.
  • Ebates is a free program that actually pays you for doing what you already do--shopping. If you are planning on buying ANYTHING online (books, music, software, clothing, appliances...), go to the retailer's site through Ebates and you'll get the exact same sale price, but you'll also get a percentage as cashback. It's like making your own sale. They affiliate with over 1000 stores, and they also start you off with $5 for joining. The program is free.
  • Youdata is a program that pays you for viewing ads.  If you think about it, ads are everywhere--billboards, Facebook, almost every website, and we view them all the time.  Youdata will PAY you for very briefly viewing ads that are matched to your age, gender, and interests.  Most ads pay about $.10, but it does add up, and they pay EACH WEEK via paypal, which is nice.  I just let the liitle amounts accumulate until I want to redeem them for Restaurant.com certificates or some other small, useful purchase,
The above programs won't make you rich, of course, but they do help out a tight budget quite a bit. If you make a habit of spending just a few minutes a day, at your coffee break or when the kids are in bed, you can earn enough cash and gift cards to pay for most of your Christmas/gift shopping. That is a VERY satisfying feeling!
