Prayers, Please

I'm calling all you prayer warriors into action.  My husband has only 6 weeks left until he will be laid off (a week after Christmas) from his job as Respect Life Director for our local Catholic Diocese.  Although he has had several months notice, he has been unable to find a new job, and his is our only source of income for our family of six.

I know God has His own timing, so I am trying to trust that something will turn up soon.  Please keep us in your prayers, please!

Also, if you know of any good, Catholic companies that may be hiring, let us know!

Giveaway--FloH Club Membership

I read about The FloH Club and thought if my grandmother were still alive it would have been THE perfect gift for her.

The FloH Club, started by Florence Henderson (hence the FloH name), is "a telephone-based technical support service aimed to empower older adults." The service helps subscribers who may not be computer or technology savvy do things like:
  • Understand how to use video conferencing, instant messenger, and social networks to connect with kids and grandkids
  • Learn simple tasks like email and making purchases online safely
  • Resolve issues such as slow/poor system performance, networking, error messages, virus/spyware removal, security and data backup
  • Setup new devices like printers, digital cameras, MP3 players and other peripherals

“Its like roadside assistance, but for your computer,” said Florence Henderson. The subscriptions are available in several options including a one-time service, monthly membership, 6-month, or annual memberships.

This would be a great gift for aging parents who would like to easily stay in touch with their  computer savvy families, and would give them a bit of independence and confidence in using technology.

Learn more about the FloH Club at www.flohclub.com.

The Floh Club is giving one reader a 3 month membership, valued at $75!  What a great gift for a parent or grandparent!

To enter, just fill in the form below.  One winner will be randomly chosen on November 13.

Giveaway--Yogavive Apple Chips (3 Winners, ends 11/15)

In searching for healthier snack options for my family, I came across Yogachips--crispy, Organic, dried apple chips that come in five flavors (Cinnamon, Strawberry, Peach, Caramel, and Original).
The chips are packaged in individual sized bags, equivalent to one apple per bag (five bags per box).  They are fat free and naturally sweet.  A bag of Yogachips from Yogavive has 35 calories, so it is a low-cal  healthy snack that satisfies both your sweet tooth and your crunchy snack cravings.

I've had apple chips before, but have never had flavored apple chips until trying these--my favorite flavor is peach.  YUM!  Yogachips are great for guilt-free snacking for both adults and kids, and for tossing in lunchboxes for a healthy sweet treat.

Three lucky readers will each win 5 boxes of Yogachips--one box of each flavor, for a total of 25 bags (a value of $37)!

To enter,  just fill in the form below.  You have until 11/15 to enter. Three winners will be randomly chose via random.org.

For your first entry, just fill in name, email, and what flavor you think you'd like to try.  For extra entries, do one or all of these and submit the entire form again for EACH extra entry:

Review-- 'Football Guys' Sports Action Figures

Little boys like action figures-anyone with a son know this--but many of the action figures available are violence/war based.  My 7 year old son does have a tub of army guys, I must confess, but in general I'm not a huge fan of toys that promote violence.  I was so excited to stumble upon Kaskey Kids, a company that takes the idea of the action figure, and combines it with another boyhood love--sports!

Such an ingenious idea--Kaskey Kids sells tubs of sports guys that kids can set up on the included felt playing field (or plastic ice rink).  You can choose from buckets of Football Guys, College Football Guys, Baseball Guys, Hockey Guys, Soccer Guys and Soccer Girls, and Mini-packs.

Since we live in Columbus, Ohio, home of the OSU Buckeyes (Go Bucks!), my son was thrilled to be able to review the OSU Buckeyes College Football Guys.  He was SOOO excited to set them all up in various positions and formations, making up his own "game".  When he had a friend over, they happily sat on his floor playing Football Guys. And my husband, still a boy at heart, was caught playing with them, too.  :)

I was impressed with the size and quality of the figures-they are 2" high, very sturdy, and nicely detailed with the team colors and jersey numbers.  I expected a small little playing field and was very surprised to find a 4 foot by 2 foot WASHABLE field! And of course, the set is complete with a referee and 2 goalposts.

These make such great gifts for any boy or girl (or husband!) who loves sports. The toys are unique, well-crafted and foster imaginative play.  You can purchase the College Football Guys, or any of the other sports sets here.

*NOTE--If  you use the promo code Holiday, you'll get 20% off your purchase!

Kaskey Kids provided a set upon my request for us to review.  All opinions expressed here are honest and unbiased.

Printable All Souls Day Holy Cards

In preparation for All Souls Day tomorrow, Kathleen at Handmaid for the Lord created Holy Cards with a prayer of St. Gertrude to help children (and adults!) pray for the souls in purgatory.  She graciously offered these printable holy cards to all of us.  Thanks, Kathleen!

This would be a great time to remind our children that the souls in purgatory rely on our prayers and offerings to get to heaven.  Once those grateful souls reach heaven, they will no doubt pray for us.
