Winter, at least for us here in the Midwest, means dry skin. I tend to not drink enough water as it is, so that mixed with dry winter air and frequent hand washing gives me very dry skin on my hands (that
sometimes cracks). I am always slathering on lotion.
Skin MD Natural is a sheilding lotion--a formula that goes beyond conventional lotions to shield skin from irritants while keeping moisture in the skin.
I was curious if it would do any better at moisturizing my hands than my usual slew of drug store lotions. My first impression was that the Skin MD Natural lotion was very "un" lotion-like, yet, not at all in a bad way. Instead of the scented creamy, foamy, or thick and waxy textures of most lotions, the unscented Skin MD Natural lotion is a bit thinner and silkier. It absorbs into my skin almost immediately without a lot of rubbing, which is nice, and there is no waxy or sticky feeling. Also, just a pea sized amount on each hand is plenty to moisturize (I'm used to using mounds of lotion). When my skin is very dry and cracked, applying lotion stings sometimes. I was very relieved to find this lotion does NOT sting! It is just soothing, plain and simple.
The lotion is made from food-grade ingredients, and is fragrance free, colorant free, and paraben free.
As the Skin MD Natural website states ' "Your skin wasn't designed to deal with soap and the thousands of other everyday chemicals," explains Dr. Peter Helton, a board-certified dermatologist specializing in cosmetic dermatology. "Nearly everyone's skin is exposed to harmful chemicals on and off the job. That is why Shielding Lotions are so important." According to Dr. Helton, shielding lotions help prevent damage to the skin by bonding with and protecting the skin. "They not only add moisture, but also help stop the loss of your natural moisture."'
I was happy with the performance of Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion on my hands, so I tried it on my legs, too, which have been dry and itchy (the lotion is for face, hand and body). My skin felt the same "ahhhhh" as when I am very thirsty and drink a big glass of ice-water. I'm impressed that the lotion does not just temporarily improve the moisture in my skin, but over the course of several applications/several days it rehydrates and seems to heal my dry skin, so I need less and less lotion and my skin is no longer dry and cracked. I am quite happy with the lotion, and my skin is definitely less dry, so that is success in my book. :)
Skin MD Natural is giving away one bottle of shielding lotion to a lucky reader. To enter, just fill in the form below. One winner will be randomly chosen on February 20.
