Review and Giveaway: Malea McGuinness

I like an eclectic mix of musical styles and genres--classical, folk, pop, Christian, a little country...  Rising star singer/songwriter Malea McGuinness is just as eclectic in her musical style.  She is equal parts pop, country and folk with occasional surprising elements of soul and classical, all which coexist wonderfully in her new album Close As Air.

Classically trained Malea McGuiness, who is half Irish and half Korean,  attended prestigious music programs like Tanglewood (where my husband also attended for compostition), and eventually went on to star in the Broadway revival of "The King and I" before moving on to a more contemporary style of music that showcases her powerful and versatile voice.

Check out her style and get a free download of Malea's single "Spinning"  HERE or catch her at the 2010 Summerfest Music Festival or on tour.

I've been enjoying Close As Air for a few weeks and I love the diversity of the album. To me, so many pop albums can all sound alike.  To use a cooking analogy ('cause you all know I love to cook!), I feel that many albums are all vanilla--pleasant, but rather common.  Close As Air is not vanilla, but rather, spicy--at times assertive, sweet, complex--a feast for the ears.
